Hi All,
As we are entering holiday season, I want to give you a heads-up about the Chinese New Year Holiday (also called the Spring Festival) which is the week of Feb 11th for year 2013, as such you can factor it in your 2013 project plan. Chinese new year is sort of equivalent of Christmas in western, and it’s themed for family reunion and celebrating the start of new year. Chinese new year follows the lunar calendar, so it doesn’t show as fixed dates in the Gregorian calendar but usually in Jan and Feb time frame. In January every year, the Chinese government will publish the holiday plan for Chinese new year which is to shift working days to complement the legally 3-days holiday to one week off. One of the well-known features about Chinese new year is huge amount of people migration during the period – in 2012 the number reached to 700 million… this is explained by the fact that around 50% Chinese population live in city, they either transfer to their home town where their parents/relatives live for family reunion, or in the other way around their parents/relatives move to city.
To go around the traffic peak, many people choose to leave and come back early or leave and come back late. A big portion of the V company China associates are not C city original, so they will join the moving troops if no mission critical works due for delivery during that period.
Hope this heads-up is helpful. Please do let me know if you foresee any mission critical deliveries or support jobs have to be scheduled in the Chinese new year timeframe, which we certainly are able to address – possibly to let the concerned associates on duty or stand by in Dalian given remote access will not be in place by then.
Best regards
